Design Rules for Injection Moulded Products

Injection Molding is a versatile process easily applied to manufacture all kinds of mould parts. Injection Molding is the industry standard and even custom mould maker makes use of plastic injection molding process to design custom mould plastic parts. Here will see some few design rules to ensure quality and durability.

Maximum Wall Thickness:

The wall thickness of plastic part is directly proportional to both the cooling time of process and the total materials required to produce the plastics. When you decrease the wall thickness, it will help to decrease the cycle time and production costs as well. If the wall thickness is too high, then it will lead to the problems like sink age and war page, where one has to redesign the product again.

Corners:

If it difficult to force the plastic into a perfect corner, which results in messy product. Thus, mark all the corners to increase the aesthetic and durability.

Applying a Draft:

A draft is a tiny angle ranging from one to two degrees. This angle applied to the mould on the face perpendicular to the parting line. Draft will allow for easy removal of any portions from the plastic mould. Custom mould maker makes use for this design feature to correct the defects in the products.

Ribs:

Ribs are another design feature needed to acquire the overall stability control. Ribs will give greater structural support, as they add as thin wall protrusions. Manufacturer like HQ Mould considers all the above design features, to manufacture their plastics with zero defects.
